I am going to preface this blog by empirically stating that what I am about to talk about is nothing more than a theory. I make no statement that this is the truth but merely a theory with regards to Mattamy and their development in Ottawa. This information is based on research of the past weeks including phone conversations and emails and does not in any way purport to be the truth but merely conjecture. However the information I am about provide does provide for a logical explanation of the development of Kanata West by Mattamy. Also under the rights provided to me by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom of expression I am provided this allowance to propose ideas and conjecture with regards to Development of Mattamy development in Ottawa as it impacts on me and other home buyers we are in contact with. Phasing in and out of honesty!!!
(another home buyer story)
I, too, am one of the home purchasers from Mattamy on their Phase 4 development site. Like you, I purchased and signed my contract in June and a month and a half later they are asking me to come in to sign the Amendment changing my closing date from April 1, 2009 to January 14, 2010. I spoke with my lawyer and after deciding what to do, my lawyer sent Mattamy’s lawyer a letter stating that I would not be signing the Amendment and would Mattamy homes in consideration of this extensive delay (and due to the circumstance that I am in), please refund my deposit. Lack of forward MOE-mentum
During the brief history of this blog and ‘event’ we have focused on Mattamy Homes and the City of Ottawa. But there are other players in this overly complex game of he said, she said, namely the Provincial Ministry of the Environment. Affectionately referred to as MOE. And like the bar tender behinds MOE’s bar they to divvy out the drinks and say when you have had enough and when you can have some more. Yet unlike the infamous bartender of the Simpsons the Provincial Ministry of the Environment seems content to let the patrons decide to drink as much as they want and to raid the cash register.

Frank Cairo comes to bat but fails to get on base
I am not a fan of baseball per say but the title of this post seemed to be the most fitting I could come up with. As you all know Mr. Cairo last Friday told us he would respond to our suggestions by end of day today. Now we where not expecting there to be offers or significant olive branches in todays message but what we did get we feel falls well below that. So lets get it over with and paste in Mr. Cairo’s message.
A Neighbourhood in our Kitchen
Never did Dan and I think that our kitchen would be worth a quarter of million dollars, but this morning as we met with home buyers, that was exactly what was standing in front of us. Of course that is only in deposits not actual house values but it is an interesting thought. Another thought occurred to Dan and I after this mornings get together. We have already met more neighbours than we ever would have simply by just moving in. Interesting how life’s curve balls can result in a positive outcome. Surely when we are all snug in our new homes we will have a very active community group, watch out bi-weekly garbage pick up people and transgressors of sedate suburbia! Read the rest of this entry »
If home construction has ground to a halt, why is the city breaking ground themselves?
City police unveiled plans for a new $18.5-million west division patrol station yesterday. The 41,000-square-foot, one-storey building will be located at 211 Huntmar Dr., just south of Scotiabank Place. Ottawa Police Chief Vern White, who attended a groundbreaking for the station yesterday, said the new facility would be a key asset to help provide similar service levels across the city. A frank discussion with Mattamy
As many of you know Dan and I where contacted by Mr. Frank Cairo, VP Mattamy, this past Friday. So this evening the meeting took place. So lets get started shall we…
Mr. Frank Cario arrived at our home around 6:45 as promised accompanied by Susan Murphy, Project Manager for Mattamy. If you have not heard of Susan before she used to work for the city of Ottawa before leaving for Mattamy. I tell you this because Mr. Cairo made a point of telling us so it should be said here. A face to face with Councilor Shad Qadri
This morning at 10:45 I met with Councilor Shad Qadri in the parking lot of the Tim Hortons at Merivale and Meadowlands. The idea was to sit inside and have a coffee but I asked Mr. Qadri if he would mind strolling around the parking lot instead. It was a hot day so I felt a bit bad making Mr. Qadri suffer under a nasty sun this morning in his suite, but he was polite and agreed. Read the rest of this entry »
Interview with CBC
Sorry for taking until today to get the interview video posted up but we did not get it until late yesterday. Unfortunately the first couple of seconds is cut off.
Other than that Mr. O’Kelly did a great job and got and it was the second item on the news cast to run. We thought that was great. Hopefully Mr. O’Kelly will continue to cover this ongoing story and we will certainly be in touch with him as more news breaks.
